Stained Glass at the Cathedral

All Saints' Cathedral is home to over 800 square feet of stained glass on the East and North sides of the Cathedral (this does not include the stained glass on the West side above the Standing Stones Chapel).

The windows contain images of a Biblical story in the top section and then a smaller square window underneath with the dedication and images of personal significance for the donors. These include items like family crests, buildings or places with significance, or other historical images that connect to individuals of the Cathedral over the years.

These windows have been darkened to make them appear older than they actually are. The earliest of these windows were installed in 1956 and some date as recently as 1980. They were designed by Robert McCausland Limited from Ontario.

When the Narthex was constructed, the windows on the North side of the building were no longer lit by sunlight. Lighting was installed behind these windows in 1994 and that lighting was given in thanksgiving from the Bocock family in memory of Emily Bocock.

Information about each window or set of windows may be found below.

East (Great) Windows - Above the Altar

This window was installed in memory of the Right Reverend Henry Allen Gray, the first rector of All Saints’ Cathedral and also the first Bishop of the Diocese of Edmonton, and his wife, Georgina Wibby. The window shows Jesus in the middle panel with Mary on the left and John on the right. The inscription reads, "My peace I give unto you."

The window shows images of Jesus (in the centre) with Mary on the left and John on the right. The inscription says: “My peace I give unto you.” In the centre lower panel, there is the image of a miter, the headdress worn by the Bishop. The elements of the Eucharist, bread and wine, are shown to the right and left of the miter.

The East windows had external lighting installed in 1973 so that those windows can be lit for evening services. The lighting of those windows was given by E. Driscoll and R.H. Driscoll in Thanksgiving to God and in memory of Alfred and Margaret Driscoll and Aileen.
